Our 2024 Club Championship is fast approaching, taking place on Saturday 1st June!

The course is shaping up to be in perfect condition for when members will be battling it over 36 holes to be crowned this year’s Club Champion. The reigning champion, Kevin Metcalfe, who also won in 2021 and 2022 will not be defending his title this year so the biggest competition in the LSGC calendar is wide open.

This Thursday is the first night for the Steward’s Cup!

Details are as follows…..

1) £5 entry - £2.50 goes to the prize pot, the winner each week will have this loaded on to a bar card, £2.50 goes to the end of season party

2) It’s a 9 hole Stableford comp, 1-7 and 17-18

3) Played off half your playing handicap

4) We will be using a different stroke index allocation, with the holes 1-9 on S.I. from the white tees

5) You must sign in at the bar, collect a Thursday night scorecard and pay entry before you play, the earliest you can play is 4pm, you may play in 2 balls if you wish for this comp, if you are a single we will get you a game!

6) There will be an overall Champion, which will be your aggregate score, you must play 4 times to qualify

7) The comp will run until the 3rd of August

8) The bar will be open until 10:30pm each Thursday

The AGM will now be held on Saturday 25th March at 6pm sharp (not the date published in the diary). This is always a very important part of the club year, so please be there if you can make it. It’s the time when members get a chance to have their say and the committee can lay out future plans for the club. The other important business of this AGM is to elect officers to help run the club and we welcome our new club captain David Groom into office.

London Scottish always needs expertise in certain areas, including accountancy, legal, marketing, web design and digital marketing. The current committee would welcome members to join this group and help shape the golf club for the years ahead. In saying that, we have a number of members who work behind the scenes and may not have the time for committee meetings or are not eligible for the committee but are happy to get involved in helping the club. Please talk to the secretary at any time if you may be in that position.

For more details on joining the committee, please talk to any of officers of the club to find out what is involved. The nomination forms are posted on the noticeboard in the clubhouse and need to completed by 11th March 2023.

We will be hosting a Burns Supper on Saturday 28th January to celebrate the life and poetry of Robert Burns, the famous Scottish poet. Burns Suppers are traditional Scottish events that are held around the world to pay tribute to Burns and his work.

The dinner at the London Scottish Golf Club will begin at 18:30 and will consist of four courses, including cock-a-leekie soup, haggis, neeps, and tatties, roast beef, and a cheese board. The cost is £30 per head, and guests are more than welcome to join in the festivities.

Burns Suppers are a great way to celebrate Scottish culture and enjoy a delicious meal with friends. Whether you're a fan of Burns's poetry or just love good food, this is an event not to be missed! If you're interested in attending, be sure to reserve your spot soon, as space is limited. We hope to see you there!

After a long absence, we have reintroduced out annual Christmas Lunch for members and their families. This will consist of a full traditional roast with all the trimmings at just £20 per person and as I’m sure you’re all aware by now, Adam and his team’s food is superb so this is not one you want to miss!

Situated less than 10 miles from central London, we pride ourselves on having one of the best Autumn / Winter courses in the southeast of England with our quick-draining gravel soil that is perfect for all year-round golf. We have reintroduced the Autumn Open Fourball Better Ball event on Friday 28th October 2022.

The entry fee per pair will be £70 (£40 for members, £55 for member/guest combination) and coffee and bacon roll will be provided on arrival followed by a rolling hot buffet on completion on your round in our cosy Victorian wood-panelled clubhouse.

COMPETITION CONDITIONS

1. 18 Holes better ball medal (start from 8.30am). Prizes for both Scratch and Nett Scores.

2. Open to Amateur Male Members of recognised golf clubs with current CDH handicap

3. Limited field. If oversubscribed, higher handicaps will be balloted out.

4. Closing date for entries: Monday 17th October 2022

Local bylaws state that golfers must wear a pillar-box red top while playing on the course. If required, our Pro Shop will be able to supply you with a red polo shirt from just £15.

Dave Paul’s 2022 Captain’s away day will be hosted at Silvermere Golf Club in Cobham. It will be a medal competition with the nett winner taking home the Captain’s Prize and the gross winner taking home the Honorary Captain’s Prize.

The timings are as follows:

07.30 - Bacon and sausage rolls alongside tea and coffee

09.00 - Two tee start on the 1st and 14th hole

14.30 - Two course lunch

16:00 - Prize giving

16:30 - Close

The cost is £68 which includes a small donation to Cancer Research UK - don’t forget to wear pink!

As we are now able to play golf on Bank Holidays, both London Scottish and Wimbledon Common Golf Clubs have decided to come together and have a joint competition. This will take place on Monday 29th August and will start from LSGC’s 1st hole (Elcho, WCGC’s 8th hole).

The format for the day will be a team event of 4 golfers, 2 from LSGC and 2 from WCGC and every stableford score will count towards the team’s overall score.

This will be a fun event and a chance for members of each club to get to know each other so please contact the Pro Shop to enter or put your name on the sign-up sheet in the clubhouse.

The Am-Am is a relatively new event in the golf world, but is a great format and has replaced the traditional members guest day, where in the past only one member with one guest could play. This format allows members to invite up to three guests to join them for a day's golf at London Scottish, with teams recording their best two nett scores on each hole. We can also accommodate outside teams of four to enhance the day.

The cost for members is £25 and guests is £50 and all of that includes the full day’s golf, wonderful prizes, and the usual great food!

To enter, please contact the Pro Shop or put your names down on the entry list in the clubhouse. Closing date for teams will be Saturday 23rd July and it will be a limited field, teeing off from 9am until midday.

The spaces are going fast so we advise you to submit your teams ASAP so you don’t miss out!

Our 2022 Club Supper will be held at 18:00 on the 21st May. The evening will also bring the presentation of all the major trophies in the 21/22 season so if you have won or been a runner up in any of these competitions it would be great for you to be involved to collect your prize.

This day includes Dave Paul’s Captains drive-in where he, in his new red jacket, tees it up on the first hole and (hopefully) hits one down the middle where all the guests of the Club Supper will be waiting to retrieve the ball - whoever manages it will receive a prize well worth the effort!

The members from Royal North Devon will also be attending the event and we are limited in numbers so make sure to get your name down early to avoid disappointment. The price for the evening is £30 and contact the Pro Shop to be involved.

London Scottish Golf Club’s Winter Open is returning!

On Wednesday 2nd March, we will be hosting our enviable annual Winter Open. As one of the only courses in the area that can cope with the British winter without the need for temporary tees or greens, our Winter Open has become very popular in recent years and spaces are already limited for our 2022 event.

For just £33 for non-members and £25 for members, each participant will get a bacon roll and a coffee on arrival; 18 holes of golf on Wimbledon Common, the third oldest golf course in England; a buffet lunch and a selection of fantastic prizes. There will be both scratch and handicap competitions, with a handicap limit of 24.

The reigning champion and multiple Winter Open champion, Iain Yule, won in 2020 with an unbelievable score of 68 - 2 = 66. Can anyone beat him this year?

London Scottish Golf Club’s 2021 Captain, Les Hodges, has chosen the wonderful Royal Wimbledon Golf Club to host his Captain’s Day.

Open to members and guests, there will be bacon rolls and coffee served at Royal Wimbledon in the morning before an 18 hole competition and dinner served back at London Scottish.

The Captain’s Day is always a great experience with many prizes to be won and we would love to see as many members and their guests as possible. The cost will be £75/p which includes everything on the day.

We would like to get the final number of competitors by 17th October so make sure to put your name down to avoid disappointment!

To celebrate the return of the Ryder Cup at the end of September, we are hosting a brand new match for members - England vs Scotland vs Rest of the World. Competitors will battle it out on Wimbledon Common for their country before heading to the 19th hole to cheer on Europe at Whistling Straights Golf Club.

A two-course meal will follow the match for £12/p.

The LSGC Club Championship will be held on moving day of The 2021 Open Championship.

This is always a fantastic day for the members with 36 and 18 hole competitions available to enter. Our head greenkeeper, Ian Jennings, and his team will work hard to ensure the course is in perfect condition for this event and if you’ve played in it before, you will know the greens are not to be messed with! Steve Barr will be taking entries nearer the time so keep an eye out for this.

The 2019 London Scottish Pro-am will take place on Wednesday 22 May. This is always a great event, giving you the opportunity to play alongside a professional and have a chance to win some great prizes. The entry fee is £60 per person / £180 per team for LSGC members and £75 per person / £225 per team for non-members. Our popular London Scottish Winter Open will be held on Wednesday 20 February 2019. We're expecting lots of entries from other clubs and would also like to see good representation from our own members.

Cost of entry is £20 for members and £29 for guests, and the event is open to anyone with a bona fide handicap. Entry includes bacon roll and coffee on arrival, plus a buffet lunch.

There are handsome trophies for the best scratch and handicap medal scores.

The 2018 scratch competition was won by Joe Smith of Wyke Green GC in Middlesex, with a two over  par round of 70.  The handicap trophy in 2018 was won by Andrew Dalton from London Scottish GC, with a net 65.

Our captain, Tommy Tighe, is hosting an Invitation Day for members and guests on Wednesday 18 July. This will take the form of fourball better ball event, with some great prizes on offer for the best scoring pairs. The entry fee is £30 per person for members and £40 for visitors, and includes a bacon roll on arrival and a two course meal. We are hoping for a good turnout so please try to play and spread the word to your golfing friends. We will send out a separate email with further details.
 

This event replaces the Pro-am, which will not be held this year but we expect to return in 2019.
 

Hopefully this won't boar anyone but a reminder that we are hosting a hog roast at the club this Friday evening (15 June). It should be a... crackling evening... As much pig as you can eat, Spain vs. Portugal in the World Cup and the US Open Golf on TV, and good company (a swine-free zone). It's only £15 so you won't have to pork out too much of your hard earned cash.

The 2018 Club Championship will be played on Saturday 26 May. For anyone who has not previously played in the event, this is one of the best days of the year at the club. It's played as a 36 hole medal event, with players going out in handicap order. The title of Club Champion is awarded to the player with the best aggregate gross score, and there are also trophies for the best aggregate net score (the Silver Jubilee) and the best gross score by a 10+ handicapper (the Gordon Coombs Trophy), as well as a host of other prizes. Food and drink will also be plentiful on the day.

The Club Championship is open to all members. If you'd like to play just sign up on the sheets that will be up at the club soon. If you can't make it to the club to sign up you can email us and we will add your name.
