Professional Shop

Matthew Barr, our PGA Advanced Golf Professional, arrived back full-time at the club as its professional and secretary in 2022 after a 30-year gap, having been professional here from 1987 to 1992.

Matthew operates from one of the smallest and oldest pro shops in the UK, which is also attached to one of the last remaining club repair workshops, with a wonderful old workbench for club repairs and a loft and lie machine for alterations to clubs, as well as all the tools and test equipment for repairing electric trollies and batteries.

The workshop also doubles up as an informal office and small 'boot room' where members gather for a chat - a unique, old fashioned social hub in the modern golfing world and in many ways the nerve centre of the club.

Despite its size, the pro shop houses a large stock pillar box red shirts, sweaters and waterproofs, with or without the 1865 club logo, plus other interesting memorabilia. As a member of Foremost Golf, the UK’s largest golf buying group, Matthew is able to supply all the golfing essentials from companies such as Titleist, Srixon and Skechers, as well as the complete Motocaddy range of carts, accessories and spare parts. He also has a Motocaddy Service Centre workshop outlet on the premises.
